David Martin, Application Support Specialist/Developer at NOENMCC
This month, we sat down with David Martin, who serves as an Application Support Specialist/Developer at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.
All of his work for the SEB Program centers around integration between various third-party services and NOENMCC’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). David develops solutions for automating or streamlining processes that export data to third-party services or retrieve, process, and import data from third-party services. His work is frequently focused on using Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) which provide reliable, future-proofed interactions between the systems.
According to David, “My role in handling the IT for the SEB Program is to interpret software specifications and implement solutions to ensure accurate information retrieval.”
Ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of the compliance software in tracking SEB payments and participation is very important. David explains that “Each tool comes with routines for validating data and the outcomes of all actions. Stakeholders receive summaries and reports. My task is to program these tools to facilitate the smooth retrieval of information for our stakeholders to review summaries and reports.”
To ensure the success of the SEB Program’s compliance effort, David collaborates with other departments and team members. David said, “As the subject matter expert on software development, I need to fully grasp their needs and intentions, express them in specifications, and educate and collaborate with them to understand the SOPs they must follow for the successful use of the tools and reports.”
To better serve the needs of the SEB Program, David has implemented extensive granular logging so that issues can be examined effectively even if discovered late.
“Timely notifications of issues and summary reports of successes keep the automation as part of my daily workflow and remind me of the processes when I am no longer actively developing the solution,” he said.
While David does not interact with SEB vendors face to face, his influence is deeply present within the community. “David’s commitment to helping his colleagues become more efficient and to streamlining some of the more time-consuming and repetitive work in the service of reporting and collecting data is a key contributor to the success and impact of NOENMCC’s SEB Program on the local business community,” said Cynthia Sperier.
